Q & A

We get these questions a lot.

What makes KIZINGO spoons so special?

Our spoons make self-feeding successful.

Learning to feed yourself is difficult, but it's so important and at Kizingo we believe that kids should have the tools they need to do this, successfully, for themselves. Our utensils are special because they:

  • encourage independence
  • are curved to work with the way children want use them
  • have short, wide handles that are easy to hold
  • are dishwasher & microwave safe
  • don't contain BPA/PVC/Lead or Phthalates
  • are designed and manufactured in the US

Where are KIZINGO spoons made?

Kizingo spoons are made outside Albany, New York.

Although it's not neceearily typical for baby/toddler spoons, it was important to us that our spoons be manufactured in the US. Our mold was made in the US, too, and our packaging designed and produced here as well. We feel so fortunate to have found our manufactuers (also a women-owned business!) and packaging suppliers and have had a fantastic experience working with them.

What are KIZINGO spoons made of?

The highest-quality, FDA-approved, dishwasher-safe plastic they can be.

All of our spoons are made from FDA-approved BPA/PVC/Lead/Phthalate-free Profax PF511 (aka: polypropylene, aka: plastic).

During the design and manufacturing processes, we tested a number of different materials - all plastic co-polymers - and selected the best one we could to balance safety, feel, and manufacturability. One day we may explore other materials (we love the idea of introducing a wooden version!), so keep coming back to see what new products - and materials - we're offering!

Can I put the spoons in the dishwasher?

Is chocolate the greatest food ever? (FYI: we mean YES!)

Can you imagine a spoon that you had to hand wash? And then imagine only having one! Our products are designed for parents, by parents so yes, our spoons are dishwasher safe (they are also microwave safe, if you're the microwaving type.

Does the spoon work for left-handed eaters?

Not as well as our left-handed version will.

Although we have observed children using the spoons with both their right and left hands, the current spoon is designed specifically for people who are right-handed.
BUT... we recognize how unfair this is (one of our co-founders is even a lefty!) and we DO HAVE a left-handed design ready to go into production. The problem is the price. It is very important to us that our spoons (and mold) be manufactured right here in the US, which means that manufacturing is a lot more expensive than if we made them oversees. But trust us when we say "we're working on it!"
